Union Pacific Terminal, Cheyenne Wyoming

Central Avenue, or what  becomes the South Greeley Highway, has an overpass over the substantial Union Pacific yard in Cheyenne.  This modern railroad terminal features a tower, much like an airport tower, which is bisected by Central Avenue, making the UP tower an island in the automobile traffic.

  1. Pat,

I want to thank you for posting these pictures. My father was the General Roadmaster on the Union Pacific when this tower was built. I remember seeing this right after it was opened...he was so proud of the beaming U.P. emblem rising above the overpass. Ironically, two weeks after he showed it to me (in 1983), he went jogging over this overpass and was hit by a drunk driver. He was killed in a place he had been so proud to show off. I had never thought to look up the spot until last night...seeing these pictures, and life going on as normal, brought a strange sort of peace. I don't see tragedy, but I see what he was proud of...and it makes me smile. Thank You!
